The snow would have to be pretty deep and fresh (fluffy) before you'd run out of mast.

  • The mast need not be fully extended and the unused sections can remain bundled at the bottom. This makes it easy to set the Alexloop's height to whatever is desired in any snow conditions: the remaining bundle at the bottom is simply crammed or buried down into the snow. In this shot only the topmost section is unbundled. For lateral support, I discovered on my Scott Peak activation (see next album) that all I had to do was jam one ski down into the snow then bungee the mast to it.
