Logbook page 1.

  • To get to the trailhead for Mt. Watson, start in either Truckee or Kings Beach. Highway 267 connects these two towns. Take Highway 267 to Brockway Summit. Turn onto the paved road that heads southwest and is about 75 linear yards down from the summit on the Kings Beach side. The road is indicated only by a T intersection sign (we call it Mt. Watson Road but I don't know what the official name is). Follow the road past the trailhead for Pt. 7740 (<a href="http://www.grizzlyguy.com/HamRadio/SOTA-Activation-872012-Pt-7740">see other album</a>) until you get to where forest service road 16N73E begins (the trailhead): 39.22182N, 120.15667W
  • Previous map zoomed in a bit.
  • The hike up forest service road 16N73E to the summit is approximately 1.6 miles long with an elevation gain of about 640 feet. 4WD vehicles with good ground clearance can drive up road 16N73E to within 100 vertical feet of the summit.
  • This is the trailhead, the 4x4 road to the summit of Mt. Watson (16N73E) begins here along the paved road from Brockway Summit.

  • My 20/40m link dipole hanging from a large tree limb. It was nice to not have to hike my Buddipole mast up to this summit!
