After BS-ing for a while, Todd gives me the thumb's up as he heads for the summit.

  • I don't know what these things are. They are on the west slope of the mountain just a short distance down from the top. When I saw the first one, I thought it might be a passive reflector for a microwave link, but I have no idea why they would have two of them pointed at each other.
  • As I was on my way down the snow-covered road on my ATV, I was surprised to run into Todd KH2TJ hiking up with his radio gear! Todd lives down below Smith Peak in Portola. He said he was going to try and meet up with me on top, but had taken a different route up from Portola that had more snow, and he'd had to hike quite a ways from his vehicle just to get to this point.
  • After BS-ing for a while, Todd gives me the thumb's up as he heads for the summit.
  • Logbook page 1. I made a total of 20 contacts from the summit, and my first ever 2m SOTA chaser contact with Todd after I rode my ATV all the way back down to Highway 70.
